VORTEX DE-GRITTER EQUIPMENT

Equipment offered
The Tecroveer range of Vortex degritters is available in the following sizes:
Our Vortex degritters are designed to suit our client’s requirements.

Introduction
Circular chamber, vortex flow and tangential entry grit traps form an integral part of the head of works to most waste water treatment plants where automated grit removal is required.  The mechanism essentially consists of a rotating paddle mechanism to achieve a rotary motion around the chamber thus achieving a vortex and encouraging solids to migrate to the central collection hopper from where it is discharged via an air- lift pump or case hardened grit pump.

Drive unit
The drive unit consists of an externally geared slewing ring driven by a gearbox through a spur gear pinion connected to the drive gearbox.  The paddle drive tube is bolted to the slewing ring and fully adjustable paddle clamp onto the drive tube.  This mechanism allows the grit discharge, air and water pipes tor protrude through the centre of the camber preventing flow disturbance and raggaing on the tank periphery.  The entrie drive assembly is mounted in a rigid housing and fitted with grease nipples for remote lubrication.

Air Blower
Low pressure air for washing the grit mixture and supply to the air lift pump is provided by two side-channel, centrifugal blowers arranged on a duty/standby basis.  For automatic operation flow to each degritter is controlled by a solenoid valve in the air line feeding each degritter.

Air Lift Pump
This unit consists of an annular ring with machined slots to allow even air distribution into the unit and an annular housing connected to the air blower via the air pipework down the chamber centre.  Submergence is the critical design consideration for the operation of pump and the equipment layout is adapted accordingly.

The discharge pipe is fitted with a Saunders Type KB, full-bore diaphragm valve to control the air-lift discharge rate.

Washwater Pump
Prior to being discharged into the classifier or drying slab the grit mixture is washed in a counter flow of air and water to provide an organic free product. Washwater is supplied by a progressive cavity pump situated on the platform next to the drive unit and drawing supply water directly from the degritting chamber.
